While attending the launching ceremony of a power battery recycling plant on Oct. 21 local time, German Chancellor Scholz said that China has performed well in the field of electric vehicles and reiterated Germany's opposition to imposing tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles. He emphasised that such a protectionist approach to trade would only hurt Germany itself.
Scholz also promised that electrification is the future trend of the automotive industry, and electric vehicle technology is currently being developed globally. The German government will continue to build electric vehicle charging piles to ensure a stable energy supply, and promote the EU to accelerate the construction of electric vehicle infrastructure.
On 4 October, the EU passed the draft final ruling on the countervailing duty case against China's electric vehicles, proposing to impose a final countervailing duty on electric vehicles originating in China. After the decision was announced, the German government and a number of local automobile enterprises expressed strong opposition to it.
