BMW Group starts construction of battery assembly plant in Thailand
15

On March 4, the construction of BMW Group's own fifth-generation high-voltage battery local manufacturing plant in Thailand is underway, and BMW Group Director of production Dr. Nordkovic (Milan Nedeljkoviic), representatives of the Thai government and Ernst Reichel, the German ambassador to Thailand, held a joint groundbreaking ceremony. Based on this, the BMW Group is preparing another production facility to produce pure electric vehicles, with local pure electric vehicle production scheduled to begin in the second half of 2025.

The upcoming high-voltage battery assembly plant, covering 4,000 square meters, is an important addition to the BMW Group's manufacturing operations in Thailand. The new assembly line will convert imported cells into modules that will then be integrated into high-voltage batteries. The BMW Group has invested more than 1.6 billion baht (approximately 42 million euros) in the project, of which a significant portion - nearly 1.4 billion baht (approximately 36 million euros) - will be used to purchase state-of-the-art equipment systems.

The BMW Group has been producing high-voltage batteries for locally made plug-in hybrids in Thailand since 2019. The Rayong plant produces BMW, MINI and BMW motorcycles for Thailand and ASEAN markets. In 2023, the plant will produce a total of more than 12,000 cars and nearly 11,000 motorcycles.
